Carpet Lining

This is one of the most effective mod you can do to your van to competly transform the look and feel inside of your van. Not to mention the added accoustic protection it adds and thermal properties. Many people have no problem carpeting their vans themselves, we have seen some though where they have not used the correct glue or correct amount of glue whilst fitting the carpet and after time the carpet starts to sag. We have been lining vans for years. We use the best products available for our carpeting and this includes self-adhesive carpet which does not sag in hot weather and also does not loose its adhesion even after many years. As we have had a lot of practice at this, we have picked up different techniques for the lining of vans and also where to hide the joints in the most discreet locations! We will finish your lining to a professional standard that will last for years to come.

Insulation

Again, this is another vital part of converting your van that can make the world of difference, especially if you want to start camping in your van straight away. You would usually get the insulation done at the same time as the carpet lining, purely as it saves you from taking the carpeted panels off for the 20th time. When we insulate a van we use recycled plastic insulation for the sides, we pack this into very nook and cranny of your van. The beauty of this is it keeps you warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. We then use foil bubble on the floor. Many people forget to do the floor as it has the wood on top. Along with the carpet, this makes excellent accoustic properties and reduces road noise for a more comfortable and quiet driving experience.

Ply Panels

The original grey panels that are fitted in your van from factory are there to serve a purpose, this is to stop items going into the inner skin of your van and to protect the outer skin from loose items in the rear whilst using it as a commercial van. They are however not strong enough to secure conversion parts to as they are made from a very thin MDF sheet. We use our in-house CNC router to cut new panels out of 4mm birch ply, our panels are made identical to the Volkswagen panels that are already in your van with exception to the rear quarters. Usually your grey panels only cover the lower half of the van (unless you have a factory Kombi). We have also redesigned the rear Kombi quarters and extended the bottom part around the wheel arch to cover all of the gap that the Kombi panel fails to do.

Curtains

If you have ticked off all of the above then really all you are really missing in your van is some curtains! Once these are fitted then really you could just throw an airbed in the back and set off for your first camping trip in your van. Our curtains that we fit are double lined, they use a thick black material on the outside (window side) and then come in a choice of colours on the inside. You can choose either Black, Grey, Burgundy or Blue. Our most popular colour is Grey followed by black. The rails have a separate part for the curtains to glide though so they do not get snagged on the screw heads that some other brands do. They also have poppers at each end to stop any of that summer sun trying to sneak into your van while you are trying to have a lay in or sleep off the wine/beer from the night before ;)

Rock & Roll/RIB Beds

The only bed option that we fit here at JC Vans is the RIB Altair bed system, it is all we are certificated to fit. In ours and many other professional converters opinion, these are the best made and safest bed/seats on the market today. There are many other makes of bed available but please do not ask us to fit these. We are pationate about your families safety and will not risk this by fitting a bed that does not meet European safety standards. There are other beds out there that do meet these standards, but we cannot certificate the install of these. Our RIB beds use the Kiravans fitting bar that is bolted to either side of the vehicle chassis and the bed is fitted to this. With the RIB Altair bed system, they come as fixed or sliding beds, with or without ISO-Fix and in 4 sizes - 112cm, 120cm, 130cm and 150cm. They also come in a range of finishes as standard, mostly matching all of the VW range of upholstery materials.

Leisure Battery & Split Charger

Fitting a leisure battery to your camper is probably one of the most important things that you can do if you are planning on running electrical items in the back. For instance, things like fridges can put a massive drain on a battery if you are not plugged into a power hook-up. On a brand new leisure battery a fridge will run solidly for around 18-hours. But usually you would be using your van during the day to travel places and see new sights, whilst you are driving your leisure battery will be charging. If however, you have been staying on the camp site that day and haven't ran your van then its not a problem if your leisure battery has gone flat. Simply start the van and let it run/tick over for half an hour and this will put some charge back into you battery. If you are not running a leisure battery and have your conversion running off of your starter battery, you run the risk of flattening your van battery and not being able to start your van. With the split charger system, we use an intelligent relay that picks up a signal when your van is running and allows the battery to link together so that both your van starter battery and your leisure battery get charged simultaneously.

240v Power Hook-up

This is a great addition along side the leisure battery. Sure, you can purchase an extension lead on the internet that gives you live 240v sockets that you can have in your van, but you have to leave an opening for the wire to come into the van. We fit our hook-up sockets discreetly under the van. As soon as you plug your van in, the 240v sockets inside your van become live. All of our 240v installs go into a circuit breaker with 2 designated trips (1 for the 240v sockets and the other for a 240v battery charger) and also a main earth leak trip. So if there were to be a problem hooking up then these would trip before any injury were to occur. Along with having the luxury of 240v sockets inside your van without the hassle of a wire going though your van, also fit a 240v battery charger. Again, this is fully automatic. As soon as you plug your van in, this becomes active. Working with our intelligent charging relay, this also means that once your leisure battery is topped up and fully charged, the relay will then click open and allow your starter battery to charge. So with this, you should never have a flat battery while camping! It is also a great idea to get a hook-up socket fitted at home if you are not using your van daily.

Window Fitting

From the outside, this is the main change that is going to stop your van looking like a commercial work van. Adding windows to your van not only transforms the look of your vehicle on the outside but also allows a lot of natural light to enter the back of your van. We use only factory tinted glass, we do offer 2 different options for glass. 1. Genuine Volkswagen Windows 2. After-market Windows Both are tinted windows however, the aftermarket window has a lot darker tint in the glass and adds extra privacy inside the van. These are nearly limo black whereas the Volkswagen glass is more of a smoked tint. All of our cutting is done using a specialised Bosch cutter (not a nibbler), we do not use saws, angle grinders or anything else that could cause hot material to eat into your paint! Finally before we fit your windows, all cut metal is treated with red-oxide to prevent any rust coming though in the future.
